Villa Medici sits in the heart of Rome near the iconic Spanish Steps and adjacent to the Villa Borghese estate. The properties history dates back more than 2000 years and includes numerous transformations, so its witnesses a lot of Italian history!
Originally part of the 'Gardens of Lucullus', the estate also served as a military camp during the Byzantine Empire. In 1576, Cardinal Ferdinando de' Medici acquired the property and, in collaboration with Bartolomeo Ammanati, undertook significant renovations, giving the villa its current name.
The property remained in the Medici family until the 1800's when the French State acquired it and still to this day own it. It now houses an academy there since the early 1800s.
At Villa Medici you can explore its exquisite gardens, which offer incredible views of Rome, and the gallery, home to an impressive collection of art which was amassed by Cardinal Ferdinando de' Medici. The collection includes around 400 pieces and features paintings, tapestries, and sculptures, the show the rich artistic heritage of the villa.
