About Rotterdam Zoo
Rotterdam Zoo or “Diergaarde Blijdorp”, was established in 1857, which makes it one of the oldest zoos in Europe! It's home to a wide range of animals covering from A-Z (Asian elephants to Zebras!). It's also got a beautiful botanical garden that can be explored.
Rotterdam Zoo Zones
- Aquarium: Explore the world’s oceans at the zoos vast aquarium which also has an incredible underwater tunnel where the sharks swim above your head! Split into two sections, you can enjoy the North Sea Zone which is home to sharks and thousands of species of fish. Then there is the Caribbean Coast Zone, where you can find coral reefs and beautiful rays and more fish, such as surgeonfish!
- African Plains: Where you can find giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and vultures! They live in a habitat designed to replicate their own natural environments.
- African Jungle: You can find the zoo’s pygmy hippopotamus along with okapis and bongos in this section. Again, the habitat is designed to replicate their natural habitat so they feel at home.
- Asian Corridor: Home to the zoo’s Asian elephants, the beautiful Sumatran tigers and Asian lions.
- Amazonia: With its incredible butterfly enclosure, a beautiful lily pad pond and tropical temperatures that are also home to some other residents that live in the tropical climes.
- Artisanal Gardens: Beautifully landscaped gardens with exotic plants and themed areas for you to enjoy.
- Himalayan Peaks: Where you can spot the strong Indian rhino, as well as red pandas and tufted deer.
- Nature Nearby: In this tranquil area of the zoo, you can find a peaceful pond with a lovely bridge over it where you can see the zoo’s pelicans relaxing on the water.

Rotterdam Zoo is heavily involved in conservation projects worldwide and participates in breeding programs for endangered species as well as working on projects to protect natural habitats, so you know your ticket fee is going towards good causes.
