About Ngong Ping Cable Car
The Ngong Ping Cable Car in Hong Kong offers a fun ride over to the Buddhist Sanctuary of Ngong Ping Village. The cable car connects Tung Chung, which is near Hong Kong International Airport, with Ngong Ping Village on Lantau Island.
Ngong Ping Village is home to the Tian Tan Buddha (Big Buddha) statue, the beautiful Po Lin Monastery which is the Buddhist sanctuary set in the hills, and Wisdom Path.
The cable car journey is just under 6 kilometres and takes around 25-minutes (each way). You can enjoy panoramic views of the area including the airport, the mountains and the foothills of Lantau Island as well as the beautiful turquoise waters of Tung Chung Bay and the marshy Shan Tau Wetlands and the South China Sea. You will also see the huge Buddha Statue as you near your destination!
There are three types of Cable Car Cabin to choose from
- Standard Cabins: A standard cabin
- Crystal Cabins: The crystal cabins feature a glass bottom, providing passengers with a thrilling bird's-eye view of the scenery below as well.
- Crystal + Cabins: This cabin offers even greater views due to its tempered glass walls and floor!
Arriving at Ngong Ping Village
When you arrive at Ngong Ping Village you can explore:
- ‘Tian Tan Buddha’: One of the world's largest outdoor seated bronze Buddha statues which stands at 34 metres (112 feet) tall. The statue is a significant religious and cultural landmark.
- ‘Po Lin Monastery’: A Buddhist monastery that dates back to 1906. You can enjoy the monastery's architecture, gardens, and enjoy vegetarian meals served by the monks.
- ‘Wisdom Path’: Near Ngong Ping Village, the Wisdom Path is an outdoor wooden path lined with large wooden columns inscribed with verses from the Heart Sutra, a revered Buddhist scripture.
