The Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) is known for its collection of exhibits relating to science, nature, and history! The museum offers a diverse range of permanent and rotating exhibitions spread across 4 floors and divided into various sections with each offering a unique experience, making it a great place that all ages can enjoy. See the creatures that have roamed earth and the seas, including a record breaking Marlin! See relics collected from historical civilisations!
Popular sections include:
- The Burke Baker Planetarium (separate ticket required - click HERE for ticket details): The planetarium section has an immersive full-dome which offers experiences about space, stars, and the universe via state-of-the-art technology that brings astronomy to life!
- Cockrell Butterfly Center (separate ticket required - click HERE for ticket details): An indoor rainforest section that houses thousands of colourful butterflies from around the world. You can walk through the habitat and see butterflies in various stages of life, from caterpillars to fluttering adults!
- Morian Hall of Palaeontology: This section is home to one of the most extensive dinosaur exhibits in North America with over 60 large skeletons in the hall which includes T. rex, Triceratops, and ancient marine reptiles. The exhibit also features fossils that provide insight into prehistoric life.
- The Hall of Ancient Egypt: This section transports you to the world of the pharaohs with over 4,000 years of Egyptian history on display! Mummies, sarcophagi, and other artefacts offer a deep dive into ancient Egyptian culture, religion, and daily life.
- Fabergé: A Brilliant Vision: The gallery highlights the beauty and craftsmanship of Fabergé eggs and jewellery and offers a look into the opulence of the Russian Imperial family!
- Wiess Energy Hall: Where you can see energy like you've never seen it before including a 14-foot-wide replica of a tricone drill bit used when exploring for oil and gas!
- The Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals: Home to a range of natural minerals including a collection of more than 450 crystalised mineral specimens.
